LGBTQ+ Therapy and Affirming Care for Adults

You may have arrived here if…

  • You are working on coming to terms with your sexuality, sexual identity, or gender identity

  • You want to explore parts of yourself that you’ve been ashamed of

  • You are managing stressors at work or at home related to your identity

  • Being queer or trans is just part of who you are, and you want a therapist who sees and integrates that aspect into your care

No matter how you got here, I’m so glad you’re here.

Read on to see if my LGBTQ+ therapy and affirming care services might help you.

From identity exploration to coming out; from facing rejection and microaggressions to embracing queer and trans joy; from the challenges of dating and relationship structures to forming our families, parenting, and finding community, we have unique needs and norms.

Shame, sorrow, fear, grief, anxiety — these may all show up on the ride to embracing all of whom we are meant to be.

The LGBTQ+ community is diverse and heterogenous, and our individual experiences are just as varied

Affirming, inclusive care on your journey

My experience with LGBTQ+ affirming therapy

This area is one where my personal and professional paths have interwoven. On a personal level, I came out as a young adult and struggled with internalized homophobia and the fear of disappointing my family. Eventually, I found my community and along with it a sense of pride in my identity. Over the years, I have navigated same-sex marriage, queer parenting, and community-based advocacy.

Professionally, I spent over a decade as a psychology graduate student, acting instructor, and professor studying LGBTQ+ mental health. I led several federally funded research studies to examine risk and protective factors for LGBTQ+ individuals’ depression and anxiety symptoms, published over 50 manuscripts and book chapters focused on this population, and trained other therapists in providing LGBTQ+ affirming care. It is truly a joy to me to work with this community.
